DRAFT

The 2001 draft is all over now and the players select by the Raiders are currently enjoying their first professional minicamp. Taking two safeties, a quarterback and two players intended to by wide reciever (Combs played his college ball as a running back but will be a wideout if he makes the Raiders roster) all help fill needs on this team. The quarterback is a player I've been lucky enough to watch this past season and wholely endorse his selection (not that Jon Gruden or Al Davis need that or even care probably). Tuiasosopo is a winner who plays his game much like current Raider QB Rich Gannon. The two DEs selected provide youth and depth to position that had already recieved improvement from free agency with the signing of Trace Armstrong. Overall this appears to have been a solid draft for the Raiders and I look forward to seeing just how solid over the next few years.

Derek Combs appears to be headed for conversion into a wide-reciever. The first mini-camp pictures on the Raiders.com site (posted on April 27th) certainly show a lot of him running routes and catching the ball.
